One Day State Level Seminar on ‘Sensitizing Youth Towards Environment and Sustainable Development’ was organized in collaboration with Rayat Shikshan Santha’s Radhabai Kale Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Ahmednagar on 1st April. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Shankar L. Laware, Principal, Arts, Science and Commerce College, Sonai, Ahmednagar and Hon. Principal Dr. Shankar R. Thopate Principal, Radhabai Kale Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Ahmednagar was presided over the seminar. Seminar coordinator Dr. G.A. Raut introduced the seminar and Cocoordinator Dr. M. G. Bhagwat (HoD, Botany) introduced the chief guest. Dr. Shankar Laware gave an overview of the seminar and its need in the present scenario. Dr. Sachin Punekar, Founder President, Biospheres, Pune and Rtn. Satish Khade, Chairman, Akhil Bhartiya Jal Sanskruti Mandal, Pune was present as resource persons for the seminar. Dr. Shankar Thopate gave the presidential address in which he highlighted the need of sensitizing the youth with respect to the environment. Mr. M. R. Khan (HoD Zoology) gave the vote of thanks for the Inaugural Function. At the beginning of the first session Ms. Chaitali Kshirsagar (Director, MAESA Foundation, Pune) briefed about MAESA Foundation. Dr. Sachin Punekar delivered a talk on ‘The Role of Youth in Conservation and Protecting Biodiversity at local level’. He gave emphasis on diversity of flora and fauna from the Western Ghats of Maharashtra and various conservation strategies.
Rtn. Satish Khade delivered a talk on ‘Empowering Youth to Conserve and Sustain Water Resources’. He emphasized on the minimal use of water resources and also threw a light on the phytoremediation for reducing the water pollution. During interactive Session members of Nagar Trekkers and Birding Pals shared their work with others. A total of 60 participants registered for the seminar. The participants included students, faculty, conversationalists, naturalists and the persons involved in various NGOs. The school headmasters and teachers involved in ‘Green Schools: The Incubators of Environmental Education and Sustainable Development’ were felicitated by offering appreciation certificates. The seminar was concluded by certificate distribution by the hands of dignitaries and the vote of thanks presented by Dr. M. G. Bhagwat and Ms. Chaitali P.Kshirsagar (Organizing Secretary), MAESA Foundation. The comparing for the seminar was done by Ms. Sana Khan and Mr. Bharati Pawale.
