MAESA foundation has undertaken a project called Institution’s Biodiversity Register. We have considered corporate organizations, educational institutes, research institutes, colleges, schools under single category i.e., institution. The main objective of this project is to increase awareness among students, teachers, researchers, corporate officials and the local community about the importance of flora and fauna found in their surroundings and to document knowledge of local communities related to biodiversity as well as sustainable resource management. The prescript format of recording biodiversity is prepared by experts of MAESA foundation is made available to the institution willing to maintain biodiversity register.

To prepare and maintain biodiversity register in the institution, the institute will appoint a nodal officer/ teacher to facilitate the activities of register. The Institution/College/School Management Committee and experts of MAESA foundation as well as local community members will also help in the process. Available human resource or students will be grouped for data collection and survey for gathering and documenting information about the indigenous flora and fauna. Documentation of the available species would be done with photographs and videographs. A photo album will be maintained in the institution. The copy of biodiversity register comprising list of plants, animals, insects, butterflies, traditional knowledge associated with biological resources, data obtained from the traditional healers who are using the biological resources for curing the diseases, community protocols for conservation, sacred groves of the area, rare, endemic, threatened species of the area, potential biological resources and commercial biodiversity will be maintained in the institute as Institution’s Biodiversity Register. Copy of the same will be submitted to Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board.
